HKIIT and IBM collaborate to groom IT talent through AI and digital skills training

Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IBM on 23 April to strengthen collaboration on nurturing digital professionals and bolstering the talent pool. Through this collaboration, HKIIT students can access over 1,000 online courses on the IBM SkillsBuild platform, enhancing their knowledge and skills in artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies and preparing them to become driving forces in technological innovation. IBM experts will participate as guest lecturers to help the students navigate how the latest technologies can address different business challenges. Embracing the HKIIT’s ‘I + I’(industry-institution) collaboration, IBM is the key industry partner to foster a dynamic synergy between industry expertise and VPET excellence at HKIIT.

 
The Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) and Sichuan Changjiang Vocational College signed a Memorandum of Understanding

The Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) and Sichuan Changjiang Vocational College signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 23 to establish a collaborative framework for student exchange and promote Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) between Sichuan and Hong Kong. Through this MoU, Sichuan Yangtze Vocational College will support HKIIT in promoting Vocational Professionals Admission Scheme (VPAS) and providing assistance to mainland students interested in pursuing studies and employment in Hong Kong. Collaborative programme focusing on nurturing software technology talents, along with fostering student and teacher exchange between Sichuan and Hong Kong, will be explored to support the talent development and promote academic exchanges between the two regions. This collaboration will bring more opportunities for VPET and talent development in both regions, building more connections and cooperation. We look forward to the partnership to help create more value and opportunities for students and teachers in Sichuan and Hong Kong!

Hong Kong – Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Asia) Limited (“ICBC (Asia)”) and the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (“HKIIT”) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 18 April 2024, with an aim of nurturing more versatile fintech talents for Hong Kong society. ICBC (Asia) and HKIIT are committed to promoting technology and digital transformation and making contributions to Hong Kong's development into an international innovation and technology (I&T) hub. Through this collaboration, ICBC (Asia) will provide students with opportunities for internships and participation in business case projects as well as employment support, while HKIIT will assist ICBC (Asia) employees in acquiring the latest knowledge and skills related to I&T and fintech through its "SkillsUP" in-service training services. We look forward to this collaboration helping students and industry practitioners to equip with the latest information technology knowledge and skills, creating broader development opportunities for them.

 
HKIIT Digital Leaders Fireside Chat Series: AI & Digital Humanities

HKIIT's first Digital Leaders Fireside Chat Series with the topic AI & Digital Humanities was successfully held on 12 April at the VTC Tower! We wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to our renowned Digital Leader, Prof Hon William Wong Kam-fai for his insightful sharing and eye-opening advice. Special thanks to Mr Raymond Cheng for his exceptional facilitation during the event. With a full house engaging in dynamic discussions, we explored how generative AI technology is reshaping digital humanities, curriculum integration, academic innovation, and ethical considerations. 2nd Trade-specific Information Session on Innovation and Technology for the Vocational Professionals Admission Scheme (VPAS)

The 2nd Trade-specific Information Session on Innovation and Technology for the Vocational Professionals Admission Scheme (VPAS) promotion was successfully held on 6 April in Shenzhen. We were honoured to have industry leaders from leading companies including ICBC (Asia), H3C, and ASL to share with us their valuable insights on career prospects and job opportunities in the IT sector. We also appreciated the support of the 150 parents, students, and teachers who attended the event in person, as well as the over 200 online participants. Their enthusiastic response and keen interest in our Higher Diploma Programmes under the VPAS were truly impressive. Today’s information session provided a valuable information exchange platform for mainland students interested in pursuing studies and employment in Hong Kong. In addition to offering industry insights and sharing career experiences, the session highlighted the latest skill requirements for IT professionals. HKIIT looks forward to nurturing our non-local students who enroll in our 10 designated Higher Diploma programmes under the VPAS, helping them to stay and work in Hong Kong. With the support from the Government and our industry partners, we hope to contribute to bridging the manpower gap for technicians and professional talents in the IT sector and empowering Hong Kong’s workforce.

HKIIT and ASL Signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to Jointly Nurture IT Talent

Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) and Automated Systems (H.K.) Limited (ASL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 20 February to jointly nurture IT talents, strengthen the IT talent pool in the Greater Bay Area, and promote vocational and professional education and training.

Under this MoU, ASL will provide students of HKIIT with industrial attachment opportunities to gain hands-on work experience with advanced technology, excellent process and experienced IT professionals, facilitating their career advancement in the IT industry. In addition, ASL will give priority to HKIIT graduates for full-time job interviews, demonstrating ASL's emphasis on IT talents and enhancing the employment prospects of HKIIT students.

In addition to its focus on pre-employment training like Higher Diploma and Diploma of Foundation Studies programmes, the HKIIT recognises the importance of lifelong learning and professional development in the industry. To address this need, the HKIIT has established an in-service training service named as “SkillsUp”; with closer collaborations with industry partners, professionals and stakeholders to offer both reskilling and upskilling training programmes for the industry practitioners, corporate professionals and workforce. Under this collaboration with ASL, HKIIT will also provide skills retraining and upskilling courses for ASL employees through “SkillsUP” to meet the evolving needs of the digital age.

Through its partnership with ASL, HKIIT is committed to promoting vocational and professional education and training in the field of information technology. The collaboration will provide HKIIT students with the opportunities to develop all-round skills required in the ever-changing information technology industry. It also demonstrates HKIIT and ASL’s joint commitment to nurturing vocational professionals, promoting the development of the IT industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and working together to build the Digital Bay Area.

The Trade-specific Info Session Series on Innovation and Technology for the Vocational Professionals Admission Scheme (VPAS) promotion was ended on 27 January with a great success in Shenzhen! We were pleased to welcome a full house of engaged in-person attendees, along with a significant number of participants who joined us online.

The response was overwhelming, with a number of parents and students stayed after the seminar to enquire about various aspects of our programmes under the VPAS. It's truly encouraging to witness such enthusiasm and interest in HKIIT’s Higher Diploma programmes.

A special expression of gratitude to Mr. Adonis Cheung for generously sharing his journey as an alumnus and how his Higher Diploma Programme contributed to his successful career at LPS. Also, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Cherry Ho for sharing insights on the talent development strategies at LPS. Their contributions were genuinely valuable about the latest career development in IT industry to our entire audience.

Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Youth Society Jointly Promote VPET in the Greater Bay Area

Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Youth Society (GBAYS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 23 January to jointly promote the Guangdong-Hong Kong co-operation in vocational and professional education and training (VPET) development.

Since its establishment in November 2023, HKIIT has been committed to promoting VPET in the field of information technology. Through this collaboration, GBAYS will support HKIIT in promoting the “Vocational Professionals Admission Scheme (VPAS)”, thereby fostering greater awareness among Mainland Chinese students, teachers, and parents regarding HKIIT’s strengths in VPET. HKIIT and GBAYS will launch various collaborative VPET projects, including student exchanges, guiding students on visits to entrepreneurial centres to experience the entrepreneurship environment in the Mainland, facilitating the movement of teaching staff and students, and exploring more collaboration and innovation opportunities for students in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.

Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) and Alibaba Cloud collaborate to create professional development opportunities for students and industry practitioners

In order to cultivate information technology (IT) talent, the Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) and Alibaba Cloud signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 15 January to establish a collaborative partnership in jointly promoting the manpower development of IT.

Through this collaboration, Alibaba Cloud provides HKIIT's teaching team with cloud platforms, offering students expanded learning resources to foster creativity and facilitate the development of diverse IT projects. Furthermore, the Alibaba Cloud Academic Empowerment Program will provide students with the opportunity to participate in global exchanges and competitions with other academic institutions, enhancing their IT knowledge and skills.

In addition, HKIIT will also offer in-service training programmes named "SkillsUP" to assist corporate staff and industry professionals in acquiring the cutting-edge digital skills in partnership with Alibaba Cloud. This collaboration will create more professional development opportunities for students and working professionals, thereby enriching the talent pool in support of the development of the IT industry in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
