Opening of the HKIIT Esports Technology Centre cum HKIIT ExploreFest 2026

A New Milestone in Esports Technology Education and IT Talent Development 

The Hong Kong Institute of Information Technology (HKIIT) officially launched its new Esports Technology Centre last Friday (26 June). The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr Raistlin LAU, Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the HKSAR Government. Distinguished guests, industry partners, teachers, and students gathered to witness the centre’s launch, marking a new milestone in local esports technology education and further promoting the development of IT talent. 
The opening ceremony featured a spectacular light and visual performance created by HKIIT teachers and students. Combining lighting, visual design, stage production and technology, the performance demonstrated how students successfully applied the knowledge learned in the classroom into practice, while showcasing their innovative capabilities and technical expertise. Alongside the Centre’s opening, HKIIT also hosted its annual flagship event, ExploreFest 2026, featuring students’ innovative achievements in the technology field.

Equipped with Industry-standard Facilities to Nurture Digital Entertainment and Esports Talent 
Since its inception, HKIIT has been committed to nurturing a new generation of digital professionals and skilled IT talent. To align with the Government's strategic direction of promoting technology development and positioning Hong Kong as a hub for major international esports events, HKIIT has set up the Esports Technology Centre with state-of-the-art facilities to support related teaching and learning, and foster industry collaboration across esports technologies and digital entertainment. 
Equipped with industry-standard facilities, the Centre supports training across key areas including:

  • Esports event management
  • Game development
  • IT and digital media support
  • Live streaming technology
  • KOL and content creation skills

Beyond technical training, the Centre also focuses on developing the well-rounded capabilities needed in the esports and digital entertainment industries, including communication, collaboration, strategic thinking, adaptability and teamwork. This comprehensive approach enhances students' professional competencies, building a solid foundation for future careers and the delivery of high-quality esports events. 


Inaugural “HKIIT Esports Cup” Put Learning into Practice 
HKIIT previously organised its inaugural Esports Cup, bringing together young competitors from Secondary 4 or above to compete on a professional esports stage and showcase their talents. The event was more than a competition of speed and skill, which also served as a valuable learning platform that combined teamwork, strategy and adaptability. 
HKIIT students were actively involved in event production, technical support and content creation, applying their classroom knowledge in a real-world environment. This hands-on experience demonstrated the unique strengths of VPET in seamlessly integrating theory with practice. 
Mr Raistlin LAU, Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the HKSAR Government, presented awards to the champion, first runner-up and second runner-up teams, encouraging the young generation to continue developing their strengths in the field of esports technology. 


HKIIT ExploreFest Features Over 40 Outstanding Projects, Showcasing Students’ Innovative Capabilities 
HKIIT ExploreFest showcased more than 40 outstanding student projects leveraging emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital media. The exhibits not only demonstrated students’ creativity and technical expertise, but also reflected their in-depth understanding of technology applications beyond the classroom and their spirit of exploration. ExploreFest also featured interactive experiential workshops, demonstrating the achievements of VPET in nurturing professional IT talent. 


Close Industry Collaboration to Foster the Next Generation of Esports Technology and IT Professionals 
Looking ahead, HKIIT will continue to leverage the Esports Technology Centre to organise more competitions and industry collaboration activities. By deepening partnerships with the industry, HKIIT aims to nurture talent equipped with both professional skills and practical experience. This will support Hong Kong in hosting international innovation, technology, and esports events, contributing to the city's role as "Asia’s Events Capital."

MoU with Yonyou (Hong Kong) Company Limited

On 28 May 2026, HKIIT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yonyou (Hong Kong) Company Limited, a leading provider of enterprise software and intelligent services. The MoU was signed by Dr Fu Tak Chung (Vice Principal of HKIIT) and Mr Owen Cai (Marketing Director of Yonyou HK), and witnessed by Dr John Hui (Principal of HKIIT) and Dr Murphy Li (Managing Director of Yonyou HK). 

This strategic partnership underscores our shared commitment to nurturing the next generation of IT talent and driving regional technology development. By embracing HKIIT's 'I + I' (industry-institution) collaboration, Yonyou (HK) will empower students with essential digital skills through hands-on industrial attachments, industry projects, mentorship and sharing sessions. This comprehensive collaboration will also provide access to cutting-edge digital platforms for training, enhance technical knowledge exchange, and facilitate IT talent flow between Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area to help foster a more regionally integrated talent pool.

Digital Leaders Fireside Chat: “How ASTRI’s AI Innovations are Shaping the Future of Smart City”

We are delighted to host the latest HKIIT Digital Leaders Fireside Chat: “How ASTRI’s AI Innovations are Shaping the Future of Smart City”. The session brought VTC colleagues together for a lively discussion about various high-tech initiatives in ASTRI and leadership experience sharing.

Heartfelt thanks to our facilitator, Mr Raymond Cheng, and to Dr. Ted Suen, M.H., CEO of ASTRI, for an insightful and fruitful conversation. Dr Suen shared ASTRI’s latest advances in AI+, telecommunications, materials, devices and other key technologies, with their application in real life situations. He also highlighted the organisation’s growth in the Chinese Mainland. Dr Suen highlighted the evolution from smart cities to cognitive cities and underscored the importance of lifelong learning—cultivating curiosity, resilience, and continuous upskilling. They also shared practical tips on career success and on being smarter citizens in an AI-enabled smart city.

AgentCon Hong Kong 2026

On 11 April 2026, HKIIT was delighted to host the Hong Kong edition of the AI Agents World Tour, AgentCon Hong Kong 2026, at our Tsing Yi campus, welcoming 300 attendees from around the world. It was inspiring to bring together distinguished guests, partners, educators, and students for a day of meaningful exchange on AI agents and their real-world impact across industries.

In the welcome remarks, VTC Deputy Executive Director Ir Dr Eric Liu said that HKIIT is committed to cultivating next-generation tech talent by bridging theory and practice through events like AgentCon, which give students and the wider community hands-on exposure to real-world challenges and cutting-edge AI solutions.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the Global AI Community for bringing AgentCon to Hong Kong, with strong support from AvePoint, MaivenPoint, and Microsoft, as well as to our esteemed speakers joining from overseas and across Hong Kong. Your insights and collaboration are vital to nurturing an AI-ready talent pool and accelerating digital transformation.

HKIIT hosted a Trade-specific Information Session on Innovation and Technology in Shenzhen to promote VPAS

On 10 January 2026, HKIIT hosted a Trade-specific Information Session on Innovation and Technology in Shenzhen to promote VPAS eligible VTC full‑time Higher Diploma (2‑year) programmes to non‑local students.
We were honoured to have our esteemed industry partners, Mr Alex Wong, Deputy CEO from Huawei International Co. Limited, and Mr Kelvin Shiu, Vice President (Human Resources, Commercial & Solutions) from HKT Limited as guest speakers. They shared up‑to‑date industry insights, recent company developments and career opportunities, and outlined the technical and transferable skills required of today’s IT professionals.
We were also inspired by non‑local students from the Higher Diploma in Digital Media Technology and the Higher Diploma in Data Science and AI, who candidly shared their HKIIT learning journeys with an audience of some 900 participants both in person and online. Their stories highlighted the practical and industry‑specific learning opportunities that define our programmes.
By embracing HKIIT’s “I + I” (industry+institution) collaboration, we work closely with our industry partners to foster a dynamic synergy between industry expertise and VPET excellence at our institute. This approach ensures our curriculum remains relevant, offers real-life workplace learning experiences, and prepare our students to be job-ready.
